Third Runway Project
Melbourne Airport is building a third runway, which will deliver much needed aviation infrastructure capacity for Victoria and help support thousands of new jobs.
Eastern Extension Project
To build the third runway, the current east-west runway (Runway 09/27) needs to be shortened at its western end from its current length of 2,286 metres to 1,940 metres.
Noise Sharing Plan
Melbourne Airport is preparing a Noise Sharing and Airspace Concept Plan. The Noise Sharing Plan aims to give communities periods of respite from aircraft noise through carefully designed flight paths and runway operations.
Noise Amelioration Plan and Program
Melbourne Airport is developing a Noise Amelioration Plan and Program. This aims to mitigate the adverse impacts of aircraft noise for residents and sensitive public buildings in the Hume and Brimbank communities closest to the airport.
Community Health Study
As a condition of approval for the third runway, Melbourne Airport has appointed independent health experts from Deakin and Liverpool universities to draft the terms of reference for an independent study into the health impacts of aircraft noise on communities surrounding the airport.
