Upcoming Sunbury Road works
We're making changes to Sunbury Road at the northern end of the airport. This is in preparation for the construction of the third runway, to allow for safe entry and exit of trucks and vehicles onto airport land. There will be changed traffic conditions on Sunbury Road between Wildwood Road and Oaklands Road on Wednesday 30 September 2026, from 7am to 5pm. A weather contingency day is scheduled for Thursday 1 October. Eastbound and westbound slow lanes will be closed, with traffic shifted to the fast lanes. Drivers should allow extra time, follow traffic management and observe the reduced 40km/h speed limit. You can read more about the works in the fact sheet below. | ||||||||||
Changes to Annandale Road
We're building a new water treatment facility along Arundel Creek at the southern end of the airport site. This facility will ensure that rainwater that flows off our planned expansion projects, including the third runway, is treated before it reaches local waterways.
As we build this facility, there will be temporary changes to traffic conditions on Annandale Road from July 2026.

Grey Box Woodland Works
The Third Runway project will involve clearing within a portion of the Grey Box Woodland which is located at the northern end of the airport. These works are set to commence during the second half of 2026, and we’re working to minimise environmental impacts where possible.
More than half of the Grey Box Woodland – approximately 83 hectares – will be retained and protected permanently. These works include habitat improvements delivered through an offset program, which includes initiatives such as installing a predator-proof fence around retained areas, strategic revegetation to improve food resources for fauna, and reusing cleared vegetation to create habitat for fauna.
All works will be guided by a detailed Construction Environmental Management Plan, which outlines how potential impacts to habitat will be prevented, controlled or mitigated, and monitored.
